BIOGRAPHY

Raw storytelling meets atmospheric alt-Americana and grit-soaked roots rock.

Dean the Mystic is the poet of the high-speed blacktop, blending the driving energy of Folk Rock with the grit-steel storytelling of Alt-Americana. From his earliest days, Dean strayed from the crowd to find quiet spaces to explore his consciousness, using music as a doorway to the inner world. He eventually found sanctuary in the cab of an 18-wheeler—and his debut album, The Life of a Driver, is a testament to the heavy, peaceful solitude and meditative hum of the diesel engine.

While Dean plays many instruments, his first love was the piano. But when a full piano wouldn’t fit in his truck cab, he adapted. On his long OTR routes, Dean honed his skills fingerpicking a nylon-string acoustic guitar, learning the songs of Merle Haggard, Bob Dylan, Simon & Garfunkel, and the Grateful Dead. Traveling the endless asphalt, he translated the solitary highway experience into a unique, stomp-and-holler roots sound.

Self-produced under his own imprint, Highway Warrior Records, The Life of a Driver is a perfect melding of melodic songwriting, life on the road, and independent music production. For those who live on the asphalt, or those who simply understand the beauty of quiet isolation, Dean the Mystic is your guide.
